Sakurajima vulkaan blijft uitbarsten

De Sakurajima vulkaan in Japan is sinds maandag bezig met uitbarsten. De uitbarsting van afgelopen maandag, is de krachtigste sinds 2009. Rotsblokken van 50 centimeter kwamen bijna twee kilometer van de vulkaan af te liggen. Momenteel is er nog geen schade gemeld, maar de Japanse Meteorologisch Agentschap heeft mensen aangeraden om uit de buurt van de vulkaan te blijven. De Sakurajima vulkaan heeft al meer dan 300 uitbarstingen van dit jaar, de vulkaan behoort tot een van de meest actieve vulkanen van Japan.




De Sakurajima is een stratovulkaan met een hoogte van 1117 m in de prefectuur Kagoshima op het eiland Kyushu in Japan. De vulkaan ligt in de Aira-caldera.In 2009 werd het record van 548 erupties per jaar bereikt, op 11 mei 2010 stond de teller al op 500 erupties in. Hiermee wordt alleen gedoeld op grotere erupties, die enige seismische activiteit teweegbrengen en een askolom produceren van hoger dan 1000 meter. Op 2 september 2010 stond de teller op 750 van deze erupties.
