Doden en 100 gewonden door noodweer in Texas

Zeker enkele mensen zijn woensdagavond omgekomen en meer dan honderd gewond door een tornado in noord-Texas. Die zou vooral het stadje Granbury hebben getroffen. Dit melden CNN en CBS News.  Een woordvoerder van de sheriff van Granbury, een stadje met zo'n 8000 inwoners, spreekt van 'meerdere doden' als gevolg van de storm. Details ontbreken nog. De eerste foto's van de schade verschenen op de website van WFAA-TV.

Er zijn ook berichten over huizen die met de grond gelijk zijn gemaakt terwijl er nog mensen binnen waren. Er zijn schoolbussen ingezet om mensen te evacueren naar andere gebieden. De National Weather Service zegt dat 32 counties in Texas te maken krijgen met het extreme weer. Ook vier counties in Oklahoma worden nauwlettend in de gaten gehouden. Granbury ligt ongeveer 80 kilometer ten zuidwesten van Dallas.
